Tip: Nose Over Your Toes
By Adam Soldinger • Nov 8th, 2008 • Category: TipsEver been on the slopes when you start to lose your balance a little bit, only to lean back on your heels and really freak out as your body uncontrollably hurdles toward the trees even faster?! Of course, we all have. The reason for this is that most skis are stiffer in the tail than they are in the shovel (up front) to provide power and control. Only problem is, when you start to lean on your heels, all your weight gets transferred into the tail and that energy is released by pushing you forward at a faster speed. Next time you start to lose your balance, try to keep your body centered with your nose over your toes to maintain control. I know it seems strange to keep your body pointed in the direction that you DON’T want to go, but oddly enough doing the opposite tends to produce some ugly, and sometimes painful, results.
This is especially helpful in the bumps, but we’ll tackle that another time.
