Snow Is On The Way, Finally
By Adam Soldinger • Dec 12th, 2008 • Category: Features, News, The WireAt long last, and just in time for the holiday break, a major storm is ready to blow into California tonight, dumping substantial amounts of snow on the Sierras. Nevermind the severe cold and wind that’s expected to accompany the precipitation…we’ll take anything we can get at this point.
The storm should last through the beginning of next week and then…good news…it looks like another one should follow right on its heels. I know we all want the light fluffy stuff, but I”m praying for some wet, heavy snow that feels like walking through marshmallows. We need a base.
This from Weather.com…
A rapidly strengthening storm system will plow into the Pacific Northwest today; bringing rain, strong gusty winds, and higher elevations snow. Cold air will quickly follow, with snow levels dropping to valley floors in some areas.
This unsettled and much colder weather will spread south and east through the Western States into the weekend.
Blizzard warnings and watches, winter storm warnings and watches, winter weather advisories, and wind advisories and warnings have been posted for many parts of the Northwestern and Western States.
Heavy snow and strong wind will spread south into the California Mountains, including the Sierra Nevada, and through parts of the Rockies. Winds could gust up to or over 100 mph in the higher peaks of the Sierra this weekend.
