Top 10 Hollywood Ski/Snowboard Movies: #8 – Ski Patrol (1990)

After some of the better ski movies of the 80’s (coming up later in the countdown) found success, there was a rash of really bad ones that followed the same formula…a group of fun-loving and friendly skiers dressed in racing pants and fluorescent gear compete against the establishment, usually some force trying to take away their freedom or territory. Some of these movies still managed to fit into the category of watchable because they involved a fair amount of partying (and yes, maybe even some nudity) and others avoided the whole thing and went for some acceptable, good-natured fun like karaoke singing and tubing with your clothes on. Ski Patrol is one of the latter.

If you like the Police Academy series, you’ll enjoy this one. The jokes are pretty much down the middle and definitely try not to offend anyone. And although it does feature some ski bunnies…there’s not a whole lot revealed. Believe it or not, George Lopez gets one of his first roles in this, which is pretty cool. However, the movie loses points for naming the token black guy “Iceman”. I mean, c’mon.
