“Confusion” – Ivan ‘Boogaloo Joe’ Jones
By Adam Soldinger • Jan 2nd, 2009 • Category: Song of the Day, The WireHere’s another blast from the past. I first heard this track back in the late 90’s when a buddy of mine at the University of Colorado was watching some snowboard flick called “Milk” (not to be confused with the recent film…which was also awesome). I immediately went out and started searching for the record which was alot easier said than done. I actually found it on vinyl before discovering the 1996 reissue by Luv ‘n’ Haight, the rare grooves subsidiary of Ubiquity Records.
Then, a couple of years later, I was at a Greyboy Allstars show on the Boulder campus when all of a sudden Karl Denson broke out into “Confusion”. I was amazed, and probably the only person in the crowd who had any idea what was going on. After the show I went up to him and thanked him for playing it, and there was a little nod of recognition that some young white kid from Jersey actually had a clue. Anyway, if you dig some good acid jazz from the late 60’s and early 70’s, this one’s for you…
