Top 10 Hollywood Ski/Snowboard Movies: #3 – Ski School (1991)

“Ski school’s not about learning how to ski!”
Dave Marshak didn’t quite know how right he was when he uttered those few words. This movie is #3 on our countdown for one reason and one reason alone…it’s fucking hilarious. It has no discernible stars to speak of (except for a few guys you’ll also recognize from Summer School who’ve gone on to have relatively successful yet under-the-radar television careers), very little story (outside of the good guys vs. bad guys thing) and not even a whole lot of skiing. What it does have are a constant barrage of hilarious one-liners and frat-ish gags, phenomenal 80’s era ski outfits, and maybe a little bit of nudity to spice things up. It’s really the funny, R-rated version of Ski Patrol.
There aren’t many movies around that I know almost every line to. Actually, I’d say there are three…Blazing Saddles, Bachelor Party and this one. Don’t ask me why…I know it’s ridiculous. It shouldn’t even be in the same paragraph as Mel Brooks’ masterpiece and one of Tom Hanks’ finest roles. But it is. Like a song that you know you shouldn’t like but for some reason you just find yourself singing along because it’s so damn catchy, this movie will get inside your head and hunker down forever.
