It’s Dumping! (Again)

Well, I can hear the heavy pitter-patter of rain drops outside my window once again which means people at higher elevations are having alot more fun than me. The Sierras have been getting crushed over the past 24-48 hours with over two feet of snow in most places. And it should continue coming down through the weekend.
Mammoth Mountain alone has received more than 40 inches from this storm, bringing their season total up to and over 400 inches, and boast the deepest base in the nation at 11-16 feet. That’s right…132-192 inches of base. Geez. Plus, they’ve already more than their yearly average and we’re just getting into March! Just to put that into perspective, since the 2000-2001 season, they’ve been averaging 52.5″ of snowfall during the month of March, 48.7″ in April and 11.7″ in May. Here’s a little breakdown of recent late season snowfall patterns at Mammoth…

With a little luck we could see the annual total snowfall reach up to 500″, something that hasn’t happened since the ‘04-’05 and ‘05-’06 seasons and has only happened a total of 3 times in the past 26 years combined. So do whatever little dance you have saved up for those moments when you’re alone and do your part to make sure this season continues to be one of the best in recent memory. AND GET YOUR ASS ON THE HILL!
