Top 10 Hollywood Ski/Snowboard Movies: #2 – Hot Dog (1984)

Anyone who’s ever joked about or actually participated in a Chinese Downhill race has “Hot Dog” to thank. Released in January of 1984, it set the stage for other teen sex comedies of its kind like “Snowballing” and “Ski School“, and became one of the iconic films of the entire decade.
Starring David Naughton (of “An American Werewolf In London” fame) and everyone’s favorite Canadian Playboy playmate turned B-movie actress turned wife of a rock-and-roll icon, Shannon Tweed, the movie tells the story of an ambitious Idaho ski bum who heads to Squaw Valley on a mission to prove himself at a freestyle skiing competition. Along the way he gets involved with a group of fun-loving trouble makers and finds an arch nemesis who, of course, is European (Austrian maybe?). Complete with all the gratuitous sex, alcohol and racial stereotypes you could ask for in an 80’s flick, the movie actually went on to gross a more than respectable $17 million.
Even today, most people will contend that “Hot Dog” was, in fact, the best ski movie ever made. I disagree.
