Heli Skiing in Iceland

With the current economic distress comes not only fire-sale deals on clothing, cars, and even houses, but also some more interesting items. Such as a heli-skiing first descent on the Troll Peninsula in northern Ireland. For serious?! Yup. Rabid skiers and snowboarders can finally get in the game and take advantage of a pretty rare opportunity to ride over 1,500 square miles of Artic Mountain terrain, and even name every new run!!! Well, as long as you have a few thousand bucks lying around.

The devaluation of Iceland’s currency, the Krona, is no secret to anyone who’s been following the major international economic collapse. You may recall that in October of last year, the Krona fell to one quarter of its value when all trading in it was suspended and their three main banks were nationalized and declared bankrupt. Finally, something good has come of it. Bergmenn Mountain Guides has been operating ski touring and mountaineering trips for the past 10 years and now they’re offering this opportunity to experience first time descents from 1,500 to almost 5,000 vertical feet.

You better get on this quickly though as each 4 day trip is scheduled during the month of May. Prices range from $3,361 to $4,661 USD depending on whether or not you want a private group (4 people) or a semi-private group (8 people), and include lodging, helicopter time, all meals, safety training, all 4×4 transportation and even down day activities like relaxing in hot springs and sea angling…what?! It does NOT include transportation to and from Iceland, however.

Anyway, check out the site for more info and follow the link for dates and pricing info…
